Cairo

Visiting EGYPT'S Capital

When the opportunity arose to go on a guided tour in Egypt, I claimed it. The tour took us to all the usual must-see sights. Pyramids of Giza and Sphinx, Cairo Museum, perfume and papyrus shops, Khan El Khalili (bazaar), mosques and the Hanging Church; however, amidst shuttling from one end of the city to the other for a week I noticed an everyday type of art. Art made of color and designs that I wished I wasn’t speeding past to take a closer look. Even then, a closer look may not be possible as I would have had to knock on a strangers door and ask to go out onto their balcony to view scenic beaches, purple and gold polka dots, or tiled stripes adorning the walls of their balconies. Is there a particular artist(s) who designs them or is this a display of the apartment owner’s creativeness? I can only wonder, as I do about the ancient Egyptian artisans, as to who they are and admire the artistry from afar.
